Addressing a rally at Jalandhar on Friday, PM Modi lauded the efforts of Punjab farmers, noting that the efforts of Punjab farmers supplied the entire country with wheat.
"Punjab is the land of sacrifice, of bravery, courage and vision. Many are stooping low by speaking ill about the state."
He spoke about the drought that currently gripped Punjab, saying that they would alleviate the issue by routing the Indus river water, currently flowing into Pakistan, back into the fields of the state. "We are making sure that farmers get their rightful share of Urea."
He took jibes at Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, taking him on over the electoral alliances that they forged in Bengal, Bihar and now Uttar Pradesh.
"They are opportunistic and floundering like fish out of the water. They will go to any extent for seizing power. Badal (Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal) has always given his best for Punjab. He worked hard to ensure that there was unity between Hindus and Sikhs at times of tension."
