Prime Minister Narendra Modi is sure busy touring the world, meeting leaders and signing significant deals; but he also finds time to reach out to the poor in need.
The PM became the saviour of six-year-old Vaishali Yadav from Hadapsar in Pune who had a hole in her heart and could not afford surgery, according to media reports.
Vaishali, a student of Pradnya Shishu Vihar school in Phursungi, could not avail the BPL health scheme to get the surgery done as her family did not possess the BPL documents despite being extremely poor.
One day, when the girl saw the PM on television, she decided to write to him, explaining her health condition. She said her uncle, with whom she stays, allowed the girl to write directly to the PM. She tore a page from her notebook and wrote to Modi, explaining to him about her health and financial conditions. Her uncle Pratap Yadav once had to sell her toy cycle for Rs.90 to buy her medicines.
The girl attached her school identity card along with the letter. The girl's uncle said they never expected any response from the prime minister, but to their surprise, a few days later, they were told that the district collector and district health officer wanted to meet them as the Prime Minsiter's Office sent a letter to them, asking them to take the steps necessary to help the girl.
In the wake of the letter from the PMO, Ruby Hall Clinic offered to perform the surgery for free.
