A youth from Karnataka landed in prison for morphing the image of Narendra Modi and posting the same on Facebook.

The accused, identified as Mohammed Mehboob (25) from Koppal district in the state, was arrested for posting a morphed image of the prime minister bowing to touch the feet of All India Majlis-e Ittihad al-Muslimin (AIMIM) MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi.

According to media reports, Mehboob, employed at a jewellery shop, has been booked under Section 153A of the Indian Penal Code (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language etc and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony).

A case was registered after the BJP workers noticed the image on the social media platform and filed a complaint.

The police said the morphed image is of Modi seeking the blessings of senior BJP leader L.K. Advani.

The accused, however, claimed that he did not morph the image and added that he received it from his friends.
