Lashkar-e-Taiba co-founder and ideologue Amir Hamza alias Maulana Ameer Hamza, who is under ISI protection, was critically injured under mysterious circumstances at his Lahore home, according to reports.
He was one of the 17 founding members of Lashkar-e-Taiba and was listed as a sanctioned terrorist by the US Treasury Department. Hamza, who is the editor of LeT publications, was shifted to a military hospital in Lahore on May 20 following the injury.

Unconfirmed reports claimed that Hamza was shot by unidentified gunmen but there is no confirmation. While there is no official announcement regarding the status of Hamza's health, Lashkar-linked Telegram channels asked members to stay strong during the "crisis" and revealed that it was just an "accident", said reports.
Hamza was part of a module that was responsible for the 2005 attack on the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. Though he left LeT in 2018, Hamza found a splinter group called Jaish-e-Manqafa, which was involved in terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
Abu Saifullah alias Razaullah Nizamani, another top LeT operative who was fatally shot by unidentified gunmen in Pakistan's Sindh, was also involved in the same terror attack. Like Hamza, Saifullah was also under ISI security but was attacked shortly after he left his home.
Besides the IISc attack in 2005, Saifullah was behind the 2001 attack on Rampur CRPF camp and 2006 RSS headquarters attack in Nagpur.
In March, LeT terrorist Abu Qatal alias Zia-ur-Rehman who planned terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Jhelum. Qatal was a close aide of Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind behind the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
