Rohullah Saleh, the elder brother of former Afghan Vice President Amrullah Saleh—who has been helping lead the resistance against the Taliban in the Panjshir Valley—has reportedly been tortured and killed by the Taliban.

Multiple reports stated that Rohullah had been killed, with photos on social media showing a Taliban fighter in front of a bookshelf that Amrullah had recorded a video from earlier.

Aamaj News reported that Rohullah had been shot on Thursday night in Rokha district.

Just two days ago, Afghanistan’s ambassador in Dushanbe said Vice President Saleh was still in Panjshir Province. “Amrulah Saleh temporarily performs the duties of the president and stays in Panjshir," Mohammad Zahir Akbar said on Wednesday.

Saleh had declared himself the caretaker president of Afghanistan following former President Ashraf Ghani's decision to flee the country.

Radio Free Europe reported that fighting was still ongoing in the Panjshir Valley, with the resistance fighters having taken up positions in the mountains. Earlier this week, the Taliban claimed to have taken over the valley, releasing photos of their fighters raising their flag. However, members of the resistance led by Commander Registani released a video stating that the battle had only just begun.

On Friday, there were multiple reports that the Taliban were going door to door in Panjshir.
