Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday declared a recent report by a European organisation on an alleged disinformation campaign by two private Indian agencies had vindicated Islamabad's position.

On December 9, the EU DisinfoLab—an organisation that fights cyber disinformation against the European Union—released a report titled the Indian Chronicles. The EU DisinfoLab report alleged that private Indian agencies had been involved in a 15-year-long operation to produce and amplify content aimed at serving India's national interests and undermining rivals such as Pakistan and China. The EU DisinfoLab report claimed to have uncovered “an entire network of 500+ fake local media in 95 countries that have helped reproduce negative iterations about Pakistan (or China)”.

Interestingly, one of the groups named in the Indian Chronicles report, the Srivastava Group, was profiled by EU DisinfoLab last year for allegedly running a dubious news website headquartered in Brussels.

Imran tweeted about the EU DisinfoLab report on Thursday. "Pakistan has consistently drawn attention of int community to India's subversive activities to undermine democracies in the region; & export/ fund extremism through structures of fake news orgs & ‘think tanks’. Recently GoP provided dossier to UN of India's state terrorism in Pak," Imran wrote.

Imran added, "The revelations by @DisinfoEU on the widespread Indian network of subversive activities vindicates Pakistan's position & exposes its detractors. The international community needs to take notice of a rogue Indian regime that now threatens the stability of the global system."

Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi described the Indian Chronicles operation as the "world's largest" disinformation network that "even puts Goebbels to shame". Joseph Goebbels was the propaganda minister of Adolf Hitler.

Qureshi tweeted on Thursday, "No surprises as worlds largest disinfo network exposed w/ India sitting atop. 15 yr global disinfo campaign designed in attempt to discredit 🇵🇰 internationally & influence global decision making. ‘Incredible🇮🇳’, powered by fascist ideals & disinfo that even puts Goebbels to shame".
