An Indian school in Dubai will be closed from Thursday after one of its students tested positive for novel coronavirus.
Gulf News reported that the Indian High School group, which has three campuses in Dubai, will be closed from Thursday. The institution has campuses in Oud Metha, Garhoud and Dubai Silicon Oasis.
Gulf News reported that a student at the Oud Metha campus had shown symptoms of coronavirus. One parent of the affected student had travelled to a country affected by coronavirus.
“The school had asked students from the affected child’s class and bus to stay at home on Wednesday while exams were conducted for the rest of the students...,” Gulf News reported.
The Dubai Health Authority confirmed that a 16-year-old student from an Indian school in Dubai had tested positive for coronavirus.
Explaining that the illness was contracted from the parent, the DHA was quoted by Gulf News as saying, "The parent developed symptoms five days after returning to Dubai. Both the student and family members have been quarantined in hospital and are stable and recovering well. All other family members have also been quarantined."
Impact on UAE
Till Tuesday, a total of 27 cases of coronavirus were reported in the UAE. The outbreak is beginning to have a visible impact on the economy of the country.

On Thursday, Gulf News reported that hotels in the country had asked staff to go on unpaid leave, following a similar directive by airlines, given the steep drop in bookings.
Hotel charges have also plummeted. "At entry level, 5-star hotels, rate have been slashed to Dh300 a night to try and convince travellers to book with them. At the luxury end of the hospitality market, properties are finding even rates as low at Dh1,200 a night is not winning them guests,” Gulf News reported.
