Protests in Hong Kong do not look like it would head to any peaceful resolution any time soon. The Chinese-backed government had deployed paramilitary forces to keep the situation under control, but a video that is going viral shows anything but.

The video shows angry protesters attacking police personnel down an escalator as more people join in and are seen kicking and assaulting the officer. Scores of protesters can be seen surrounding the fallen policeman.

China's decision to deploy additional forces to the city to maintain calm had angered protesters who have resorted to violence. Tear-gas deployment by the police have been met with violent backlash from the protesters. There have been numerous reports of the public using fire extinguishers and stones to attack the police personnel.

Chinese media had earlier accused the protesters of inviting 'self-destruction' to Hong Kong. It would be interesting to see how China responds. Agreeing to the protesters' demands may be seen as the communist government going weak, but any attempt to subdue the protests with force will not be supported by other countries, not that it has stopped China in any way.
