Manchester United have suffered due to the unavailability of key players through injury. Another team that can tell a similar story in recent times is Real Madrid. Now, a Spanish report has said that the two teams could be involved in the sale of one such injury-ravaged star.

Eder Militao is a dependable centre-back when available. He is good in the air, has agility, and can press. However, he often faces fitness issues—forcing Real Madrid to work with his less-experienced junior teammates even for crucial games.

Manchester United have started considering the 28-year-old Militao as an addition to their squad. The two-time Champions League winner could arrive at Old Trafford following the departure of his former teammate at both club and international level, Casemiro. The veteran CDM has already declared that the ongoing season is his last with the English club. Militao arrived in the Spanish capital from FC Porto in 2019. If the transfer does go through, he could become an "alpha" in the club's backline alongside World Cup winner Lisandro Martínez and former Juventus star Matthijs de Ligt. If still in charge ahead of the upcoming season, gaffer Michael Carrick would love to have them alongside Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro.

The club has received a formal offer of €40 million from United for Militao, Fichajes said in a report. Many Red Devils fans, however, have ruled out the report considering the injury-ravaged track record of the Brazilian. Some claim that his experience at the elite level cannot compensate for his injury issues. His current deal with Los Blancos runs out in 2028, meaning they have time to make a decision on his future. However, €40 million is a sum too significant to be immediately rejected, particularly for an injury-prone player, the report said.

The player, meanwhile, remains focused on rehab and finishing the season strongly, the Spanish media added. Militao is expected to make a comeback in April after suffering a muscle injury.

Manchester United made it four wins out of four for caretaker manager Michael Carrick to maintain their top-four push on Saturday. As things stand, Carrick's resurgent United are well-placed for a return to the Champions League.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, stayed within one point of La Liga leaders Barcelona with a 2-0 win at Valencia on Sunday, as second-half goals by Álvaro Carreras and Kylian MbappE settled the contest. Defending champions Barcelona lead the La Liga table on 58 points, with Real second on 57.
