The positivity around Shreyas Iyer continues to build as the Mumbai batter is said to be in a stable condition. The 30-year-old had briefly been admitted to the ICU at the St Vincent's Hospital in Sydney after suffering an abdomen injury while fielding in the Adelaide ODI.

The BCCI has released an official update on Tuesday (October 28) regarding Iyer's medical condition.

"Shreyas Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding on 25th October during the third ODI against Australia," said the statement issued by secretary Devajit Saikia.

"The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested. His condition is now stable, and he continues to be under observation. A repeat scan done on Tuesday, 28th October, has shown significant improvement, and Shreyas is on the road to recovery. The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, will continue to monitor his progress."

The Indian team, meanwhile, is in Canberra for the T20I series that starts on October 29. The team doctor, however, is still in Sydney with Iyer to chart out the future course of action. The BCCI is also in constant conversation with the hospital doctors and the team management to plan Iyer's recovery process.

Towards the end of this week, the BCCI is expected to take a call on whether to continue with the current hospital for Iyer's treatment or to shift him to another establishment. Considering that travelling back to India would be a near-impossible task given his physical condition, that isn't likely to be an immediate solution.

Iyer sustained the injury while taking the catch of Alex Carey during the second ODI against Australia in Adelaide.
