At least 27 people were killed, and dozens more were left wounded after a Russian drone attack triggered an explosion at a warehouse in Mila village in Bucha district close to Kyiv.
Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the impact detonation damaged surrounding infrastructure and residential buildings, and a nursing home for the elderly and people with disabilities was damaged.
The attack took place around Friday evening. A Russian drone attack targeted warehouses near the Zhytomyr highway, Ukrainian media agency Korrespondent reported.
The Ukrainian president also warned against the storage of ammunition near residential buildings. A statement from the president's office read, "Those who allowed this to happen must be held accountable for their decisions. Investigators from the National Police and the Security Service of Ukraine are conducting a pre-trial investigation, and a criminal case has been opened for official negligence.
There are regulations: ammunition cannot be stored near houses and other residential buildings. The appropriate conclusions will definitely be drawn."
The death toll in the incident is expected to rise. About 50 buildings were damaged, and Taras Didich, head of the Dmitrov village community in the Bucha district, died in the attack.
About 42 people, including four children, sustained injuries of varying degrees in the attack. Seven of the injured were hospitalised.
Around 381 residents, including 59 children, were evacuated from the zones.
A rescue operation was also carried out to search for persons who may be trapped at the site of the attack.
