Indian Premier League veteran batsman Suresh Raina was left without a bidder in the 2022 auction as his former team Chennai Super Kings also refrained from bringing home their all-time top scorer.

The 35-year-old had a base price of Rs 2 crore and could return to the auction pool in the next phase of bidding.

Former Australian captain Steve Smith also went unsold in the same set of players, also with a base price of Rs 2 crore.

Other top foreign players to not attract bids were veteran Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and South Africa's David Miller.

Harshal Patel, who impressed with a record-equalling 32 wickets in the IPL 2021, was welcomed home to Royal Challengers Bangalore for a whopping Rs 10.75 crore.

West Indian star Jason Holder was bought by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 8.75 crore, while Kolkata brought back their star batsman Nitesh Rana for Rs 8 crore.

England's big-hitting Jason Roy was bought for his base price of Rs 2 crore by Gujarat Titans.

Earlier in the day, Shreyas Iyer was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 12.25 crore, the highest among the marquee players on offer.

The IPL auction ahead of the 2022 season is being held in Bengaluru over two days. Unlike previous editions of the auction, teams do not have the right-to-match option.

While the eight existing franchises have already given the list of players retained by them, the new teams—Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants—were allowed to sign three players each before auction.

Each team has a purse of Rs 90 crore and each squad can have a maximum of eight foreign players.
