Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta tests COVID positive for a second time

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has tested positive for COVID-19 for a second time and he will miss the New Year's Day match against Manchester City.

The Spaniard was one of the first from the English Premier League to get the virus in March 2020, after which the league was suspended for several months. The manager is double vaccinated.

The EPL has been hit by numerous COVID-19 cases in the last two weeks as a new wave hit the country. Many matches were postponed after squads were hit by the virus, but other games continued as usual.

The UK reported a record 1,29,471 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday as it battles a surge in infections fuelled by the Omicron variant.

“Mikel Arteta will miss our match against Manchester City on New Year’s Day after testing positive for COVID-19,” said an Arsenal statement. “Mikel is isolating in line with Government guidelines and we wish him well.”
