Buoyed by goals from Idrissa Gueye and Lionel Messi, PSG scored a spectacular 2-0 victory against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in the Champions League Group A. As important as the goals was Macro Verratti's yeomanly performance in the PSG midfield—Pep's team was completely overpowered in the middle of the park.

The goal, in which Messi combined brilliantly with forward Kylian Mbappe, marked his maiden score since his arrival at Paris. Ironically, Messi's last goal in the Champions League came for Barcelona against PSG at Parc des Princes in last season's last-16. PSG opened their Champions League campaign with a disappointing 1-1 draw against Club Brugge two weeks ago.

Messi spoke after the game, as reported by UEFA.com: "I hadn't been able to play recently and this was only my second game in this stadium. I am adapting to my new team. The more we forwards play together the better our relationship will be. We all need to grow together and improve and keep giving our best".

Messi expressed his happiness to have helped his team secure a win after their disappointing draw against Club Brugge in the Champions League opener. "They were great opponents. It was very important for us to win the match after our draw against Brugge. I'm very happy to have scored," he added.
