A day after Kolkata Knight Riders' Australian pacer Pat Cummins donated $50,000 to PM Cares Fund, former Aussie fast bowler-turned-commentator Brett Lee, too, lent a helping hand to India in its fight against the raging COVID-19 pandemic.

Lee donated 1 BTC (Bitcoin, which amounts to around Rs 41 lakh) to Cryto Relief to “help with the purchase of oxygen supplies”.

As per Union health ministry data updated at 8am today, 3,23,144 people tested positive for coronavirus infection, as India's total number of cases climbed to 1,76,36,307, while the national recovery rate further dropped to 82.54 per cent. The toll increased to 1,97,894, with 2,771 daily new fatalities.

In the message posted on social media, the 44-year-old wrote, “India has always been like a second home for me. The love and affection that I have got from the people of this country both during my professional career and even after my retirement, holds a special place in my heart. It saddens me deeply to see people suffering due to the ongoing pandemic.”

He is currently in India working as a presenter and broadcaster for Star Sports at the IPL 2021.

“I feel privileged to be in a position of making a difference,” he said. “Now is the time to be united and ensure we do as much as we can to help the ones in need. I’d also want to thank all the frontline workers who have been working round the clock during these tough times,” Lee wrote.

He also thanked Cummins for starting the initiative.
