French police raided the office of Elon Musk's social media platform X on Tuesday as part of an investigation opened in January 2025, the Paris prosecutors' office said on Tuesday.

The raid was conducted by the prosecutor's cybercrime unit, according to the statement. They also confirmed that Europol was involved.

Musk and former X chief executive Linda Yaccarrino have been summoned to appear at hearings in April, while X employees will be questioned as witnessed according to the Paris prosecutor.

Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau said that the investigation was being broadened to include “Grok’s sexualised deepfakes’

The 2025 probe was launched after liberal lawmaker Eric Bothorel from the Renaissance party raised concerns of algorithmic bias on X and alleged interference in its management after Musk acquired the social media network in 2022, according to French newspaper Le Monde.

The prosecutor's office had previously said that two people alleged the suspected use of X’s algorithm for the "purposes of foreign interference".

"The investigation was expanded following other reports denouncing the operation of Grok on the X platform, which led to the dissemination of Holocaust denial content and sexual deepfakes," it said in a statement on Tuesday.

In November, Paris prosecutors said that they would investigate Grok, X’s AI chatbot by xAI, after it generated posts that questioned the use of gas chambers in Auschwitz.
