A fire broke out in an electrical generator located outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah nuclear power plant after a drone strike incident in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra Region.

Authorities said that they contained the fire and that no injuries were reported.

"Authorities in Abu Dhabi responded to a fire incident that broke out in an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Al Dhafra Region, caused by a drone strike," the Abu Dhabi Media Office stated on X.

The  Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) reassured that the fire did not cause any damage to the nuclear plant. They said it had no impact on the radiological safety level.

FANR said that all essential systems of the plant remain fully functional.

The official also said that all precautions and safety measures were taken at the site and the surrounding areas.

Authorities are also investigating the incident further. They also urged the public to rely only on verified sources of information. No country has claimed responsibility for the strike.

The Barakah nuclear power plant, located in the Al Dhafra region, provides crucial energy to the UAE, which is used to create potable water.

It supplies about 25 per cent of the country’s energy, reducing the country's emissions by about 22 million tonnes each year. Before the plant was built, the county relied on fossil fuels to provide about 95 per cent of its electricity.

In March, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Gaurd Corps had issued a threat to strike power plants and water station across the Middle East, if Donald Trump targetted Tehran's power structure. They had also specified an attack on the Barakah nuclear plant among 10 others in the region.
