A person has been arrested for duping several high profile government officials in Lutyens' Delhi.

The accused, identified as Kanhaiya Kumar, used to visit the government offices and flash his visiting card which said 'director, PMO'. According to media reports, the address given in the card was Room number 152, South Block, Raisina Hill, New Delhi-110011 which is the office room of the prime minister.

He used to seek favours from the officers which they obliged thinking he was from the office of the PMO.

Kumar was arrested when he tried to con the chief vigilance commissioner (CVC). He approached CVC K.V. Chowdary along with another person, Savitur Prasad, who claimed he was additional controller general in the defence ministry to seek undue favours. Kumar wanted the CVC to give a preferential portfolio to Prasad.

Although Kumar showed the CVC his visiting card, the CVC refused to grant the favour they asked as it was outside his domain. Chowdary, however, grew suspicious of Kumar and contacted the PMO only to learn that Kumar has been lying.

The accused used to travel by a car with a Government of India (GOI) sticker.

He has been charged with cheating, criminal conspiracy, impersonation and forgery and was produced before the court.

According to police, Kumar has been coning people for years. He was forced to stop operations in the wake of a crackdown on agents who tried to seek favours from various ministries.
