The Delhi Police posted an 'Open Letter to Every Citizen' on X (formerly Twitter) on the occasion of World Post Day, in a move to raise awareness highlighting the importance of humanity, mutual respect and public safety amid heightened security in the national capital.
"Dear citizen, Aapki awaaz aapka haq hai, aur aapki surakhsha hamara farz. Uniform ke peeche bhi ek insaan hai, jiska apna parivar hai, apne log h. Farq sirf uniform ka hai, insaaniyat ka nahi. With care, Delhi Police," mentioned the post.
Translated as: Dear Citizen, Your voice is your right and your security is our duty. Behind every uniform-wearing police personnel is a human being who has families and loved ones. The only difference is uniforms and not humanity.
Why did Delhi Police post the open letter on social media?
The message comes at a time when security arrangements have been intensified in Delhi ahead of a proposed October 10 protest at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Against this backdrop, the Delhi Police posted the message on X, drawing attention to cooperation and reminding people that while uniforms may separate roles, humanity remains common to everyone.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court, on Friday, directed authorities to ensure there is no complete shutdown of Delhi Metro services on the proposed protest day. A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana expressed concern over the proposed closure of 57 metro stations and the cancellation of long-distance trains ahead of protests led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and other youth groups.
The bench emphasised that while law enforcement agencies were entitled to take preventive measures to maintain law and order, such restrictions must be proportionate to the situation and should not cause unnecessary hardship to ordinary citizens.
