The BJP-led government held its second Tiranga Yatra on Monday, with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari walking alongside senior government officials, employees, BJP MLAs, school students, and ISKCON devotees. Those who participated in the rally were seen holding the Indian national flag to celebrate the spirit of ‘Har Ghar Tiranga,’ in keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mission of promoting unity and patriotism.
“This is a call for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Har Ghar Tiranga mission in the run-up to Independence Day,” said Suvendu Adhikari.
The rally started with the singing of Vande Mataram while the CM was on stage and ended with the National Anthem at Victoria Memorial. The CM called for a bigger Tiranga Yatra on August 15, starting from Red Road, to mark the true spirit of Independence Day and urged people to go beyond party lines by waving the Indian flag high. This will be the third Tiranga Yatra; the second was held on Friday in the CM’s constituency, Bhawanipore.
“I appeal to all households to partake in the Har Ghar Tiranga mission.” The CM also called on people to observe the festival of Rakhi to invoke the feeling of love between brothers and sisters.
Monday’s rally started from the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose statue on Red Road and covered 2.5 km before reaching Victoria Memorial, prompting police to issue traffic restrictions. This caused disruptions on arterial roads on the first day of the week. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) also organised two protests, which were cut short after police took protesters away in police vans before the rallies could begin at Shyambazar and Rajabazar, leading to further traffic disruptions in various parts of the city.
The protests were against the attack on TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee’s car while it was on its way to Halisahar in North 24 Parganas district on Sunday. TMC MLAs were also seen holding posters protesting against the attack on the former CM.
