In a bizarre incident, a man in Devri village in Chhattisgarh was arrested after he allegedly took part in a tantrik ritual that used a photograph of the Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court on Saturday.
The ritual reportedly took place at a cremation ground in the village under the Sipat police station limits on Friday night.
Villagers saw four men engaged in suspicious activities at night and accosted them,
Three of the men managed to get away while they caught Rishikesh Kumar and handed him over to the police, Superintendent of Police Rajnesh Singh said.
Police said that they recovered material used for the ritual, including a fish, lemons, vermilion and photographs of Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and two other persons from the spot.
He said that in the case, his relative was arrested because one accused had got bail while the applications of the others were pending before the court.
The accused told cops that his relative Priyanshu Bole was under police custody along with a few others for a stabbing case.
Singh warned that strict action would be taken against anyone who performs such rituals.
“Bail can not be obtained by performing any ritual. Criminals should reform themselves,” SP Rajnesh Singh further said. The SP said that further investigations were underway.
Local reports said that the Kumar and his associates decided to perform the ritual after watching videos where a tantrik claimed that such a ceremony could help secure bail.
