The grandfather of the three minor sisters who allegedly jumped to their deaths from the ninth floor of their Ghaziabad flat has now revealed that one of his daughters died in a similar manner years ago by falling off a building.

Dilip Kumar, the maternal grandfather and father-in-law to Chetan Kumar, said that one of his daughters, Anchal, died after falling from the third floor of a building in Shalimar Garden.

Anchal, who was about 16-17 years old, had reportedly gone to the area for her niece Nishika’s birthday. Dainik Bhaskar reported that Chetan Kumar, the father of the three minor girls who died last week, used to live in Shalimar then. Anchal had gone to the balcony of the house to collect drying clothes and reportedly slipped and fell to her death while standing on the railing.

"It was my granddaughter Nishika's birthday party, and Aanchal went there. Clothes had been hung out to dry on the balcony. While she was standing on the railing, she slipped and died instantly," he said. She was Dilip’s sixth daughter. The family had considered it an accident, and no action or investigation took place.

Dilip had a total of 14 children, 11 daughters and 3 sons. Deepu, the oldest son, died 10-12 years ago. Seven of his daughters are married. Sujata, his eldest daughter, married Chetan about 16 years ago. Chetan was reportedly doing odd jobs then, according to Dileep.

"Chetan earned money after this. He initially lived in the Khajuri area. Later, he moved into a flat in Shalimar Gardens, near Ekta Park. At that time, he was earning well. He dealt in vehicle finance. He would buy a house for 1.5 million rupees, renovate it, and sell it for 2 million rupees. He also dealt in land. But for some unknown reason, everything went down the drain. He even sold his car," Dilip said.

Local reports say that before the death of Nishika (16), Prachi (14) and Pakhi (12) on February 3rd, abusive language was heard from Chetan’s flat during the night. At 2 am, the sound of the girls falling was heard.

The mothers of the girls, Sujata and Heena, rushed downstairs and sat beside the bodies, crying. Neighbours reported that Sujata allegedly said, “I'll tell you everything you’ve done” before the police arrived and sent the bodies for a post-mortem.

While the girl's father has been speaking to the media, their mothers have not given a statement. Chetan's third wife, Tina, who is also Sujata and Heena’s biological sister, lived away from the family during the incident. Tina has a daughter named Debu who is 4.

According to Chetan’s statement and the notes found in the girls’ room, they took the extreme step after their mobiles were snatched away. The girls had reportedly developed an obsession towards Korean culture and spent most of their time consuming Korean content on their mobile phones.

Chetan, who spoke to the media, said, "I used to pamper my children a lot... They would watch Korean dramas, Korean games and Korean reels.” He said that his daughters were “angry” that their phones were taken away.

Dr  Babita Singh, Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission, spoke to the family of the sisters and said that the issues which led to their death do not appear to be limited to mobile phones or apps. According to her, both academic pressure and parental negligence may have been involved. The children’s mental states were not addressed.
