The deep depression over southeast Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 6 kmph during past 6 hours, and lay centred at 0830 hrs IST of today, the 26th October 2025, over the same region, near latitude 11.2°N &… pic.twitter.com/sO4ea1Ianv
This is because the depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal was moving north-westwards and is expected to develop into a cyclonic storm by Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.
The severe cyclonic storm is expected to hit Andhra Pradesh's Kakinada area late on Tuesday, bringing powerful 90-100km/h winds—which may go up to 110km/h—and heavy rainfall, especially since the northeast monsoon winds are also active over Yanam, Rayalaseema, and the Andhra Pradesh coast.
Disaster management teams in Odisha have been placed on high alert, with yellow alerts issued for almost half of the state on Sunday and Monday.

Most areas of Andhra Pradesh received yellow alerts for heavy to very rain on Sunday and Monday. Palnadu, Guntur, and Chittoor received orange alerts for Tuesday, while Tirupati, Bapatla, and SPSR Nellore were issued with red alerts for extremely heavy rain and winds reaching 65km/h.
At least half of the state—including areas like Visakhapatnam, Yanam (Puducherry), Vizianagaram, and Kakinadu—received red alerts for Wednesday.
Tamil Nadu's Chennai, Ranipet, and Tiruvallur districts have also been issued orange alerts for heavy rain on Monday.
