Days ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, four notorious gangsters involved in multiple cases of murder in the state, were killed in an encounter with a joint team of Delhi Police and Bihar Police in Rohini earlier today.
The shootout between the gangsters and the police took place at 2.20am in Northwest Delhi, when the cops tried to intercept the gang and they opened fire in a bid to escape. They were rushed to Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini, but the doctors declared them brought dead.
The slain gangsters Ranjan Pathak (25), Bimlesh Mahto (25), Manish Pathak (33) and Aman Thakur (21) – all wanted for multiple murders and extortion among other crimes – were reportedly hiding in Delhi for several days.
What is the ‘Sigma and Company’ gang?
According to the police, gang kingpin Ranjan Pathak operated an organised criminal network in parts of Bihar, particularly in districts bordering Nepal, such as Sitamarhi and Darbhanga, and adjoining states. His gang, also known as the ‘Sigma and Company’, had been active for the past seven years.
While Ranjan was the chief, Manish, reportedly, helped with the planning and their financial affairs. Bimlesh was their shooter and a key member of the extortion gang. While the trio hailed from Bihar, Aman was, reportedly, from Karawal Nagar in Delhi.
Pathak had, reportedly, been openly challenging the police on social media and through audio messages. A recently recovered audio clip allegedly revealed that the Sigma Gang was planning something big ahead of the assembly elections in Bihar.
