Amid the tragic deaths of scores of people, it has been reported that at least one of the passengers have survived the crash. The flyer was identified as Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a British national.

Vishwash, 40, was admitted to Civil Hospital in Ahemedabad's Asarwa. He suffered injuries on his face, chest and feet.

Speaking to The Hindustan Times, Vishwash said that there was a loud noise 30 seconds after the take-off, following which the plane crashed. "It all happened so quickly," Vishwash said.

"When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran. There were pieces of the plane all around me," he told the outlet. "Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance and brought me to the hospital."

Vishwash who was in India to visit his family was heading back to his home country along with his elder brother, Ajay Kumar Ramesh. He said his brother was seated in a different row and he could not find him.

Vishwash's wife and child are residing in London. Besides him, there were 52 other British citizens along with 169 Indians, seven Portuguese and one Canadian.

The pilots of the Air India flight AI171 that was bound for London gave a Mayday distress call immediately after taking off from the Sardar Vallabhai Patel International Airport at 1.39 pm from runway 23.

Following this, there was no response from the aircraft and within minutes, it crashed into Meghaninagar, a locality in Ahmedabad. Besides the two pilots, the flight had 230 passengers and 10 cabin crew members.
