Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday doubled down his attack on the Congress, saying the opposition party’s priority was ‘Family First’ and the policies around it.

“The BJP’s priority is the Nation First and people have supported our development model,” the prime minister said while addressing the Rajya Sabha.

Alleging that the Congress model is a mixture of “lies, cheating, appeasement and nepotism”, Modi said that expecting Sabka ka Saath, Sabka Vikas from the opposition party is a big mistake.

He claimed that the governance model of the BJP-led NDA is not appeasement, but 'santushtikaran' (satisfaction of all). “Our attempt is to ensure optimal utilisation of resources for welfare of people."

Modi alleged that the Congress didn't give constitutional status to the OBC commission as it was against the party's policy of appeasement and ‘Family First’.

He said attempts were being made to spread "caste poison" in the society.

"Today, attempts are being made to spread caste poison in the society. For many years, OBC MPs from all parties have been demanding constitutional status for the OBC Panel. But their demand was rejected, as it might not have suited their (Congress) politics. But we gave constitutional status to this panel," Modi said.

He further accused the Congress party of "hatred and anger" towards B.R. Ambedkar and said they were now raising the slogan of 'Jai Bhim' due to compulsion.

"It is well documented how much anger and hatred Congress had towards Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar. It is well documented how much anger Congress had towards Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. They felt irritated with his words. Due to this anger, they did everything to defeat Babasaheb in the two elections (1952, 1954) . They did not consider Babasaheb worthy of the Bharat Ratna," Modi said in a sharp attack on the grand old party.

The prime minister further noted that his government’s focus had been skill development, financial inclusion, and industrialisation.

“The first decision taken in the new parliament building was to honour women empowerment,” he said.
