Cyclone Tej gathering strength, set for Wednesday landfall along Oman, Yemen coasts

An advisory has been issued for fishermen to not venture into the sea till Thursday

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday said that cyclonic storm 'Tej' has intensified over the southwest Arabian Sea and is currently over Yemen's Socotra. Cyclone Tej’s is expected to affect the Oman coast as well on Wednesday.

IMD predicted ‘Tej’ to become a very severe cyclonic storm within the next 24 hours.

Reportedly, Oman's Salalah port will be temporarily shut down from Sunday due to the cyclone.

IMD on Friday had said that the cyclonic storm, brewing in the Arabian Sea, will not have any impact on Gujarat.

"Anticipated landfall between Al Ghaidah (Yemen) & Salalah (Oman) around early morning on 25th October. Stay informed and stay safe!" tweeted IMD.

Taking to X, IMD said very rough sea-to-high sea condition is prevailing in the Southwest Arabian Sea and is likely to become high to phenomenal from October 21 to 23.

"Expect light to moderate rainfall, with isolated heavy showers on October 24th and 25th in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, and Coastal Districts of Odisha and West Bengal. Your safety is our priority," tweeted IMD.
