The district administrations of Chennai and Tiruvallur have declared a holiday for schools alone in the respective districts. However, no holiday has been declared for colleges or other educational institutions. A holiday has been announced consecutively for a second day as a precautionary measure.
According to IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue at isolated places in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu and Kanchipuram districts on Wednesday. On Thursday, heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari and Ramanathapuram districts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and South Interior Karnataka, the weather agency said.
Coastal Tamil Nadu experienced widespread rain on Wednesday as the depression weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area. The remnant depression of Cyclone Ditwah has weakened into a well marked low pressure area. "It is very likely to continue to move southwestwards slowly across North coastal Tamilnadu and Puducherry and weaken further into a Low Pressure Area during next 24 hours," the regional centre of IMD said.
