Militant behind Kashmiri Pandit's killing shot dead in Pulwama encounter

The militant involved in the killing of Kashmiri Pandit Sanjay Sharma at Achan, Litter in Pulwama, has been shot dead by security forces, police said on Tuesday.

Sharma, who was working as a bank guard, was killed on Sunday when he was on his way to the local market.

While quoting ADGP Kashmir, Kashmir Zone Police said the slain militant has been identified as Aqib Mushtaq Bhat. Bhat was killed in an encounter at Awantipora in south Kashmir.

"Killed Pulwama terrorist identified as Aqib Mushtaq Bhat of #Pulwamsa (A category). He initially worked for HM #outfit. Nowadays, he had been working with TRF. #Killer of late Sanjay Sharma #neutralised (sic)," police tweeted on Tuesday.

The operation in which Bhat was killed was jointly carried out by the police, CRPF and 55 RR of Army after receiving information about the presence of militants in the area.

As the forces began searching the area, an encounter broke out in which Bhat was killed. One soldier was injured in the firefight. He was shifted to the hospital for treatment.
