Amit Shah in Jammu today; to visit Rajouri

He will meet the relatives of Rajouri militant attack victims

Home Minister Amit Shah is visiting Jammu on Friday to meet the victims of the Rajouri militant attack in which six people, including two minors, were killed. Shah will be accompanied by the top officials of the security forces and intelligence agencies.   

The attack, which happened on January 1, saw two militants targetting Upper Dhangri village, which is eight km from Rajouri.  They barged into three houses, firing at people, and causing the death of four people. Over 10 suffered injuries. Three of them were declared brought dead at the hospital, while a fourth succumbed to the injuries when he was being taken to Jammu for treatment in an army helicopter.

Shah will arrive at the Technical Airport in the morning for the day-long visit. He will then fly to Rajouri to meet the families of the victims. The home minister will chair a security meeting in Jammu along with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and the top brass of the security grid in J&K. 

Security has been heightened in Jammu and Rajouri in view of the high-profile visit.

A multi-layer security cover has been in place in Rajouri and Upper Dhangri and CCTV surveillance has been installed. 

Personnel of J&K Police and Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) have been deployed in the entire expanse while the army is guarding the higher reaches. There will be restrictions on the movement of the traffic in Rajouri town also.

According to reports, on Wednesday, the three houses of victims at Upper Dhangri were visited by Advanced Security Liaison (ASL) teams and routes, halt points and meeting points for the VVIP visit were examined and finalised.
