Dilip Ghosh threatens to quit politics if BJP leadership tries to silence him

Says he does not desire anything from party

Day after the BJP top brass tried to restrain him, an unfazed Dilip Ghosh told THE WEEK on Wednesday that he does not regret anything that he said.

For me, the party is supreme, not the individual, he said, adding, it is hard for him to be in public life if he has to be diplomatic and remain restrained, without thinking about the larger good of the society.

He threatened to quit politics if there are attempts to silence him.

"I have come to politics to give and not to take. I desire nothing from party. They made me MLA and they made me MP. Now they gave me charge of eight states as core group member of the party, for 2024 election." said Ghosh in a quick chat with THE WEEK.

Arun Singh, general secretary (headquarters) of BJP, in a letter to Ghosh told the latter that he is embarrassing the party with his statements and outbursts, undoing years of work he had done as party's Bengal president. Ghosh is regarded as the most successful Bengal BJP president.

In an interview to a television channel, Ghosh had said he warned the party's central leadership about welcoming TMC deserters, as many of them are now going back to their original party. One such TMC deserter reportedly informed the central leadership about Ghosh's interview and comments.

While there are claims that party chief J.P. Nadda and party national general secretary (organisation) B.L. Santosh feel that Ghosh is creating more problems for a party, which they see as “very sensitive” neither of them have spoken to Ghosh about it.

Ghosh said, "If the party was at all embarrassed then the letter would have been kept a secret document between me and top party leadership. Except me all media houses have received the letter. So, it does not carry any weight."
