The Karnataka government, on Friday, decided to lift the weekend curfew with immediate effect. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

The night curfew (10 pm to 5am), however, will continue to be in force. According to media reports, the weekend curfew was lifted as there is no significant increase in hospitalisations although the number of Covid cases in the state is on the rise.

Revenue Minister R. Ashok said after the review meeting that the curfew will be reimposed if there is an increase in number of hospital admissions. He urged the people to be more responsible.

Education Minister B.C. Nagesh, meanwhile, said schools and colleges will continue to remain shut in Bengaluru as the city has a high positivity rate, reports NDTV.

The government had, last week, decided to extend the existing curbs such as night curfew and the weekend restrictions till the end of January.

On Wednesday, the CM had observed that the number of hospitalisations is less in the current wave and hence there was an opinion that the daily life should be allowed to carry on, following Covid guidelines.
