A day after the CBI raided the residences of KPCC chief D.K. Shivakumar and that of his family and friends after filing an FIR in a disproportionate assets case, the Congress party's troubleshooter set the record straight about the total cash seized by the central agency from his premises.

On Tuesday, Shivakumar addressed a press meet in Bengaluru where he listed the different locations searched by the CBI, which has stated that it has recovered Rs 57 lakh during the raids.

"The CBI has seized Rs 1.5 lakh from my brother Suresh's flat in Delhi and Rs 1.77 lakh from my house in Bengaluru, along with Rs 3.5 lakh from the office adjacent to my residence. Apart from this, the CBI has not recovered any cash from our houses," said Shivakumar, adding that the CBI did recover cash from his friend's house.

"They seized Rs 50 lakh from my friend Sachin Narayan's house in Hassan. He is into liquor and hotel business. Another friend, Harish of Davanam Constructions (jewellers) told me their house was raided too but after searching for five hours, they took a few papers with them," he added.

Giving details about his properties, Shivakumar said, "We have a house in Dodda Alahalli, my mother's house is in D. Kodihalli and we have a house Kanakapura town (not raided) and a flat in Mumbai which is in my daughter's name. I have not been to this flat for the last six years though I frequented it when I used to visit late Vilasrao Deshmukh. My two flats in Delhi and the house of my co-brother Shashikumar were raided. But they had no cash. The CBI has taken some documents," said Shivakumar.

"The CBI has seized Rs 6.78 lakh from our houses. The agency should clarify about the remaining Rs 50 lakh claimed to have been recovered by them," said Bengaluru South MP D.K. Suresh, who has tested COVID-19 positive today.

On October 3, 2020, the CBI registered a case of amassing disproportionate assets worth Rs 74.93 crore against Shivakumar, during his tenure as minister in the Siddaramaiah cabinet.

The CBI was given the sanction in September 2019 by the state government, but the FIR was filed a year later on October 3, 2020, under sections 13 (1) e and 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. It was based on a preliminary inquiry that the Congress leader and his family had amassed assets disproportionate to their known sources of income during the period between April 1, 2013 and April 30, 2018.

The assets had grown from Rs 33.92 crore in 2013 to Rs 166.79 crore in 2018, and the total expenditure was Rs 113 crore. The assets disproportionate to the known sources of income of the accused is Rs Rs 74.93 crore (44 per cent), states the FIR.
