As a stark reminder to society about its responsibility towards fellow humans, the wife of the motor vehicle mechanic who succumbed to a heart attack on Bengaluru roads has donated his eyes. Wailing her husband's loss, the mechanic's wife said, "Humanity failed her husband."

It was a tragic day for 34-year-old mechanic Venkataramanan from Balaji Nagar in Bengaluru and his wife Roopa. During the early hours of December 13, Venkataramanan complained of chest pain to his wife. Fearing for her husband's health, Roopa immediately took Venkataramanan in a two-wheeler to the nearest private hospital. However, the hospital allegedly refused to offer him treatment, saying the doctor was unavailable.

The couple immediately rushed to another private hospital nearby. "At the second hospital, we were told he had a stroke and to go to another hospital," Roopa told NDTV, recounting the dreadful moments. Roopa charged despite her husband's condition, the hospital refused to help with finding an ambulance or providing emergency care. She added that, though she attempted to find a private ambulance, none responded properly.

However, Roopa decided to take Venkataramanan in her scooter herself. Venkataramanan collapsed, and they both suffered injuries after Roopa lost control of the scooter. Roopa, along with her sister, who reached the spot, tried to stop passing vehicles, but none stopped.

Minutes later, a car stopped, and they rushed Venkataramanan to the hospital. However, doctors declared he died on arrival. "Humanity failed to help my husband. I was covered in blood, pleading for help, but no one came,"Roopa told NDTV.

"Humanity failed, but we did our bit by donating his eye," she said. The family has donated the eyes of the man. Venkataramanan's mother said, "I have no words. I don't know what to say. My son is gone." Roopa's mother said the couple has two kids and worried who would take care of them.Â
