J&K: Two LeT militants killed after opening fire on security forces in Shopian

Two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants were killed on Friday in an ongoing encounter between militants and security forces at Sirhama, Bijbehara in Anantang district of restive south Kashmir. According to police sources, one of the militants was a top commander and was active for the last three years.

The encounter started after a joint team of police’s special operation group (SOG), Army and CRPF launched a search operation in the area after information about the presence of militants in the village. The operation was halted in the night, and by first light the operation against the militants resumed. Their identities are yet to be ascertained.

The security forces came under fire after they closed in on the hideout of the militants. The forces retaliated. In the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed.
