In view of the spike in COVID-19 cases, the HRD Ministry on Friday postponed medical and engineering entrance exams NEET and JEE to September.

The Joint Entrance Exam (JEE)-Mains will be held between September 1-6, while JEE-Advanced exam will be held on September 27.

The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) will be held on September 13.

JEE-Mains for admission to engineering colleges was to be held from July 18-23 while JEE-Advanced, which is conducted for admission to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), was scheduled for August 23. NEET was scheduled for July 26.

On Thursday, Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had said that a panel would review the situation for conducting NEET and JEE amid concerns over spike in COVID-19 cases.

"Looking at the prevailing circumstances and requests received from students & parents appearing for JEE and NEEET examinations, a committee consisting of officials from the National Testing Agency (NTA) and other experts has been advised to review the situation and submit its recommendations latest by tomorrow," Nishank had said.

Around nine lakh aspirants have registered for the JEE (main) exam, while 16 lakhs have registered for the NEET-Undergraduate exams. Raising concern over the worsening of the pandemic, candidates across the country have been demanding the postponement of the exams.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had last week cancelled pending board exams scheduled from July 1 to 15.
