The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Wednesday clarified that all the pending examinations of Class 10 and Class 12 will be conducted at the “first possibility” after the coronavirus lockdown is lifted. It also informed that the students will be given at least 10 days’ notice before the exams are held.
The board’s clarification came amid reports that the pending exams are likely to be cancelled with no respite in sight from the COVID-19 pandemic. The confusion arose after CBSE Secretary Anurag Tripathy, while talking to a news channel, said the pending Class 10 exams could be cancelled in the current situation. "As the minor subjects of Class 10 Board exams were pending, it can be cancelled,” he had said.
However, the CBSE on Wednesday put all such speculations at rest and said the board's decision to conduct exams for 29 subjects of Class 10 and 12, stands the same as mentioned in its circular issued on April 1.
"With regards to conduct of Class 10 examinations... it is once again reiterated that remaining examinations will be conducted by CBSE. It is once again clarified that adequate time of 10 days will be given to all stakeholders before starting the examinations," the board said in a statement.
"It is also informed examinations of all subjects of Class 10 and 12, as mentioned in Press Release, will be conducted after assessing the situation after the lockdown is over," the statement, which the board has shared on Twitter, further said.
In another tweet, the board also sought to clear the speculations over the exams. “Recently there has been a lot of speculation regarding 10th CBSE Board exams. It is reiterated that the board's decision to take board exams for 29 subjects of Class 10 and 12, stands the same as mentioned in circular dated 1.4.20,” it said.
Earlier, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had demanded that the pending examinations for Class 10 and Class 12 be cancelled, adding to the prevailing confusion among students.
"CBSE exams should be cancelled. The students of Class 10 and 12 should be promoted on the basis of internal examinations and assessment," Sisodia told reporters. He also suggested that the curriculum for the major examinations be reduced by 30 per cent for the next academic year.
According to reports, Sisodia has already put forth these demands Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank.
