Indian Army on Thursday released more video footage of the surgical strike it had conducted on the terror launch pads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The Army released the footage two days ahead of the second anniversary of the cross-LoC operation in September 2016, which, since then, has been a major plank of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in various state elections.

The latest video shows the elite paramilitary commandos of the Indian Army bombarding the terror launch pads in PoK.

The Army carried out the surgical strike on the night of September 28-29, 2016, a week after Pakistan-based militants attacked a military base at Uri in Jammu and Kashmir and killed 18 soldiers. According to the Army, several terrorists were killed in the operation.

Last week, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat said in view of the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir, he believed there was a need for another surgical strike on terror launch pads across the LoC.

General Rawat had backed the government's decision to call off dialogue with Pakistan, asserting that talks and terror cannot go together.

The government, on September 21, called off a meeting between the foreign ministers of India and Pakistan in New York, citing the brutal killings of three policemen in Jammu and Kashmir and Islamabad releasing postage stamps "glorifying" Kashmiri militant Burhan Wani.

Meanwhile, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked educational institutes to observe 'Surgical Strikes Day' on September 29, a move that has invited criticism from several quarters.
