Sudhir Mishra's Daas Dev, presented by Storm Pictures and produced by Saptarishi Cinevision Production, is set to release on March 9.
The film follows a path contrary to the plot of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s classic novel Devdas. Set against the backdrop of Uttar Pradesh, Daas Dev is a film about power, love and addiction.
The film stars Richa Chadha as Paro, Aditi Rao Hydari as Chandni and Rahul Bhat as Dev. The film also features Vineet Singh, Saurabh Shukla and Vipin Sharma. Anurag Kashyap will be seen in a guest appearance in the film.
Sudhir Mishra, known for his critically-acclaimed movies like Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, Yeh Saali Zindagi and Chameli said: “We started with one of my friends telling me why you don’t do Dev Das? I started working on it with a fellow writer and suddenly things started changing. I started feeling that Hamlet and Devdas were similar stories and then the Indian political situations came up and it became like a reverse journey of Devdas. Ultimately it became a film about power as it gets in the way of love.”
Aditi Rao Hydari said: “My character Chandni redefines the iconic character Chandramukhi as an empowered woman of this generation, a woman who is not confined by rules. Women who want to live their lives on their terms without being judged, who are unapologetic of who they are, who they strive to be and what they want from life. Women who are the masters of their destiny and who embrace the conflicts within them and celebrate themselves. Daas Dev has been a very challenging experience for me.”
Rahul Bhat said: “Daas Dev is the journey of Dev who fights all addictions including his addiction to power which is the most dangerous addiction to complete an arch and finally transform him from being a Das to becoming a Dev.”
