The Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Thursday arrested musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, who was with deceased singer Zubeen Garg during his Singapore yacht trip.

The Assam government has formed a 10-member SIT, led by Special DGP M.P. Gupta, to probe Garg's death after he drowned in Singapore on September 19. A second autopsy conducted in Guwahati revealed that there was no foul play in Garg's death, following which he was laid to rest.

Who is Shekhar Jyoti Goswami?

Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, who has been a long-time associate of Zubeen Garg, is a singer, composer, lyricist and drummer. Some of his popular songs include O Bohona, Hiyaio Kande, Buku Bhangise, Baxonti, Najitora, Jiya Jiya Moromote, Patoliya Mon and O Kolika.

Goswami's song Pitoler Kolosh was sung by Zubeen Garg and Bilkis Inam.

It is not clear if Goswami will be slapped with any charges.

Entrepreneur Shyamkanu Mahanta who organised the Northeast festival in Singapore is also expected to be arrested. The SIT raided the residences of both Mahanta in Geetanagar and the late singer's manager Siddhartha Sharma in Dhirenpara.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said the government would seek a CBI probe if the SIT investigation is "unsatisfactory". "Our stand is clear that we will uncover the truth of what happened that day by all possible means, and we will not compromise in this matter in any way," he added.

Sarma, who belongs to the BJP, claimed that Mahanta ran an online campaign against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP during the last Lok Sabha elections.

"I have never spoken to him. He sent me numerous messages, but I never replied. Assam is a small state and one is bound to cross paths at some place or the other. Let me make it clear, whether it is Rongali or the NEIF, Mahanta does not represent the true culture of Assam," the CM said.

Sarma's government has banned Mahanta and his organisation from conducting festivals in Assam.
