From Kuppathu Raja in 1979 to this year's action thriller Darbar, Rajinikanth has often come out with releases during Pongal. Some of his other major Pongal releases include the blockbuster Baashha and last year's Petta.
It has now been revealed that Rajinikanth will come out with a Pongal release next year as well. Annaatthe, the actor's 168th movie, directed by Siva, will be released for Pongal in January 2021. Sun Pictures, which produces the movie, took to Twitter to announce the release date with a motion picture of the movie.
Another motion poster of the film was released on February 24.
According to media reports, the movie was supposed to be released in October this year, but got postponed due to the COVID-19 lockdown. The shooting of the movie was reportedly under way in Hyderabad just before the lockdown was imposed.
According to an IANS report, as the Tamil Nadu government has granted permission for post production works, the Annaatthe team has resumed work on the portions of the movie that has already been shot.
The movie boasts of a ensemble cast, including Meena, Khushbu Sundar, Nayanthara, Keerthy Suresh and Prakash Raj. This is the national award winner Keerthy Suresh's first movie with Rajinikanth.
The music of the movie will be composed by D. Imman.
