Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan revealed that he is "surviving on 25 per cent" of his liver for the past 20 years.

According to media reports, the actor, during a recent event, revealed that when he was diagnosed with tuberculosis in 2000, he did not know he was suffering from it from past eight years. Calling himself a "tuberculosis survivor,” he called upon people to undergo regular health check-ups.

The actor, who has been associated with various health campaigns, including TB and polio, said he cites his personal example all the time to convey the message that it is important to get the health check-ups done on time. He said he does not mind publicly saying that he is “a tuberculosis survivor, Hepatitis B survivor.”

Further, he revealed that 75 per cent of his liver was damaged because of bad blood infusion, but because he was able to detect it, even after so much damage to the liver, he is able to function well with 25 per cent of the liver for the past 20 years.

“I keep saying with immodesty that if it can happen to me, (it can happen) to anyone. Therefore, if you are not willing to get yourself tested, then you would never find out and there's never going to be a cure for it,” he was quoted as saying.

On the work front, the actor was last seen in Badla, a crime thriller directed by Sujoy Ghosh. He will be next seen in Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, a Telugu period drama, also starring Chiranjeevi, Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, Tamannaah, Anushka Shetty and Sudeep.
