For the first time in Bollywood history, a film touched Rs 20 crore nett on its third Friday, courtesy Dhurandhar's Rs 21.50 crore nett on December 19. For the record, the previous best was Rs 12.50 crore by Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava that also released this year. The margin by which Dhurandhar has broken the record is simply unprecedented.
If Friday was record-smashing, we would need to find new adjectives to describe what the third Saturday and Sunday holds for Dhurandhar at the box office. Early trends on Saturday suggest a full-blown explosion at the box office once again, with occupancy levels between 60-70 percent on an average across India.
These are freak figures for a film that is in its third weekend and as per early trends, Rs 30 crore nett is a given for Dhurandhar and it could end up between Rs 35-40 crore nett. Simply unheard of in modern era. The momentum refuses to stop and it indicates the historic word-of-mouth that the film has got across all regions, regardless of urban, semi-urban or rural areas.
With this kind of trend, Dhurandhar is on course for a Rs 100 crore nett third weekend - a figure that very few films have managed in their whole third week, let alone the weekend. By Sunday, the film will get into the Rs 500 crore nett club, with the Rs 600 crore nett club also set to be crossed in the third week itself.
After 16 days, Dhurandhar's India nett collections will be Rs 490-Rs 495 crore. The worldwide gross of Dhurandhar in 16 days will be around Rs 750 crore and these are only estimates as overseas numbers get fully updated only after the weekend. The film is marching on towards the coveted Rs 1000 crore mark.
