Piracy has been the worst enemy of cinema in the recent times. Ever since the advent of torrant sites and cheaper internet, movies, which get released in theatres end up on one of these sites and are up for download on the same day.

The latest victim to piracy is the Dhanush starrer Pakkiri which was released on Friday. Pakkiri is the Tamil version of English movie The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir, which marks the Hollywood debut of Dhanush. A few hours after the movie was released in theatres, a pirated copy of the Tamil version landed in one of the torrant sites, namely Tamilrockers. The fans of the actor has been shocked by the report that the full HD movie is available for download on the site.

The movie, is based on the book 'The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir Who Got Trapped in an IKEA Wardrobe' by Romain Puertolas, has already garnered international attention and has won two awards— the Best Comedy Award at the 2019 Barcelona-Sant Jordi International Film Festival and the Ray of Sunshine Award at the 2018 Norwegian International Film Festival. The movie was released in English, Hindi and Tamil and had a wide release, including in the US, UK,Canada and Singapore.

Directed by Ken Scott, the movie stars Amruta Sant, Erin Moriarty, Berenice Bejo apart from Dhanush. The movie is about a young man, Ajatashatru Lavash Patel (played by Dhanush), struggling through circumstances that seem to pull him deeper into an abyss. The movie promises plenty of laughs and is a feel-good movie, peppered with a Bollywood number and a random musical performance to cater to the taste of Indian audience.

This is not the first time that a Tamil movie landed in one of the illegal torrant sites. A few months ago, Rajinikanth starrer Kaala was leaked online at 5:28 am, reportedly even before the first show of the movie was completed in theatres across Tamil Nadu.

A few months ago, actor Vishal, who is also the president of Tamil Nadu Film Producers' Council (TFPC), had urged Tamil Nadu government to come up with stern rules to end the issue of piracy. Vishal has been waging a battle against piracy for some time and had urged the support of people to end the menace.
