“A for administration, B for the ballot box, C for the constitution, and D for democracy”, — not your typical ABCs but an innovative way of informing young minds about civic awareness. This unique lesson echoed in the Hall No. 6 of the Pragati Maidan where the New Delhi World Book Fair is underway.
This was just one of the many stalls captivating the imagination of children. From the vibrant kid's pavilion where one can find the stories of Mahabharata, Ramayana, and everyone’s favorite Panchtantra story books to an interactive virtual library and stalls showcasing tools and games to enhance English proficiency from an early age– this book fair is a fertile ground for learning.
Adding to the buzz was Advocate Hariom Jindal with his books ‘Restoring The Balance’ and ‘Empowerment Through Knowledge’. He was passionate about instilling democratic values in young children and was seen guiding parents on how to teach kids from a very young age about democracy and freedom. He condemned the age-old ‘A for apple and B for ball’ method that has been used since the time of British rule. He adds, “It is necessary to teach every citizen, especially children about democracy and the constitution so they can make correct decisions and are aware of corruption and crime”.
Pramod, who was a father to a 12-year-old, marveled at English-learning card games that aim to educate kids through fun games. He bought the pack of cards without thinking twice and said, “ I wish we had something like this when we were kids”.
Meanwhile, young kids browsed through shelves filled with novels, and comics of Tenalirama and Akbar-Birba. They were buying Mahabharata and Ramayana storybooks and even manga series proving how stories travel across time and culture.
Beyond the world of printed books, digital gallery experience, and virtual trips to the libraries along with interactive quiz games were other highlights of the book fair that attracted kids and adults equally. Kids were seen enjoying stories narrated by Shivaji’s hologram.
The New Delhi Book Fair hosts ancient epics to modern digital innovations, offering a vibrant space for young minds to explore, learn, and grow. Through engaging stories, interactive games, and thought-provoking discussions, the fair presents a vast space for kids to develop a love for literature and books in the brain-rot culture.
