The brutal murder case of a 14-year-old boy at Kureeppally in Kerala's Kollam district allegedly by his mother took a fresh turn on Friday with the woman claiming that she was possessed by evil spirits when she hacked her son Jithu Job on Monday evening.

However, the police have not been able to find a motive behind the murder till now. Jayamol, who was arrested on Thursday, told the police that she was forced by the evil spirits to kill her son. The police also took her to a psychiatrist, but the doctor said she was mentally sound.

Jayamol had earlier claimed that she had killed Jithu over a property dispute and no one else was involved in the crime. She disclosed that she had instructed Jithu not to visit her husband’s parents and relatives. However, the boy paid no attention to her advice and visited his paternal grandparents on Monday.

When he returned, Jithu told Jayamol that his grandmother had no plans to give a share of her property to them. According to Jayamol, this enraged her and she pushed him off the kitchen slab he was sitting on. The boy's head hit the floor and she choked Jithu with a shawl before hacking him to pieces.

Jayamol then dragged the body out to the backyard. She borrowed kerosene from the neighbor's house and poured it on the body and set it on fire.

Half an hour later, she picked up the burnt body but parts of it fell off. She collected the parts and dumped it in the banana plantation nearby.

She claimed that she killed Jithu around 6 pm and before her husband returned at 8.30 pm she had wiped out all signs of the crime. She then told her husband that their son was missing.

Even while the frantic search was being made for the child, she went and checked on the body. She had told police that the burn marks on her hands were sustained while cooking. However, the police believe that there is still some mystery in the case as they are not ready to trust her statements completely.

Jithu's father, however, denied the property dispute issue. He said he had no such issues with his parents and relatives. Neither Jayamol nor he had sought a share of the property, he said.

The burnt and mutilated body of Jithu, son of Job T John of Kureeppilli, Nedumbana, was found in a banana plantation on Wednesday evening. The hands, a leg, a foot and neck were chopped into pieces. The portion below the knee on one leg was splintered. The face was entirely burnt.
