A Catholic priest has been detained for raping a 16-year-old student in Kerala’s Kannur.
A case has been registered in Kelakam Police Station against Father Robin under POCSO and IPC Section 376.
The girl gave birth to a child last week.
On February 25, an anonymous letter was received by the Childline mentioning the incident. The Childline officials informed the police about the incident on the same day.
A woman police officer met the victim and recorded her statement.
Initially, the victim, in her statement claimed that her own father was responsible for her pregnancy. However, when questioned further, it was revealed that the parish priest, who is also the manager of the school where the minor girl studied had raped her.
As per the statement, the incident took place in May, 2016.
