The Mumbai Police has registered a case of abetment to suicide against the boyfriend of television actor Pratyusha Banerjee, who was found hanging at her Mumbai home on April 1.
The case was registered after the 24-year-old actor's mother levelled fresh charges against Rahul Raj Singh, who continues to be in a hospital for hypertension.
Pratyusha's mother Soma, in her new statement to the police on Tuesday, held Rahul responsible for the death of her daughter. On the basis of her statement, police filed an FIR and booked Rahul under sections IPC 306 (abetment of suicide), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation).

The actor's parents had earlier told police that Rahul and Pratyusha used to fight a lot and that in most of the times, they had to intervene to sort things out between them.
“I used to live with Pratyusha at her Kandivli flat. When (she and Rahul) would have fights, they would live separately. I counselled them to not fight so much and concentrate on their careers,” Soma was quoted as saying.

“Some days ago she called me and said Rahul is cheating on her. Three-four days ago, when I got a call in Delhi, I told her I’ll come and sort out everything. She said she can’t live like this anymore and wanted to get out of this relationship. She said she needed help and wanted to file a case against Rahul,” Kamya claimed.
