A seventeen-year-old student allegedly shot himself to death in Bengaluru on Friday morning.

The deceased, identified as Rahul Bhandary, was a II PU student of Army School. He is the son of a retired Army havildar, Bhagat Singh. The family, which hails from Uttarakhand, had been residing in Bengaluru for the last two decades.

According to police, the boy’s body was found lying in a pool of blood in Sanjayanagar bus stop near the IAF campus and the pistol with which he is suspected to have shot himself in the head was found next to the body. The police contacted the parents using his mobile phone. The parents and his older sister rushed to the spot and were in a state of shock. They had been trying to call him since morning but had got no response.

While the reason for the alleged suicide is not known, the police have shifted the body to M.S. Ramaiah Hospital.

"The boy had the habit of studying early in the morning around 3.30am and used to go for walks to fight stress. On Friday, he left the house in the morning and carried the licensed pistol belonging to his father. He knew how to operate the pistol as his father had taught him. A single bullet has entered his head from the right side and exited on the left side," said DCP (Central) M. N. Anucheth.
