One of Bollywood's most bankable actors, Nawazuddin Siddiqui is known to sink into the character he is playing on-screen. But while preparing for his role for Sridevi-starrer Mom, the 43-year-old actor was not very happy with his North-Indian accent that he had to use in the film and realised there was scope for improvement before shooting the movie.
So he used actor lyricist Piyush Mishra as a reference to better his accent. The latter was Siddiqui’s senior and inspiration at the National School of Drama and has known him since.
Nawazuddin said, "When I was shooting for the movie in Delhi on the first day, after I was done with the makeup and getting ready for the shot, I suddenly thought of Piyush Mishra. I knew my character had to have a heavy north Indian accent, so I thought I could imitate him to see if it works."
"Surprisingly, when I started imitating him, it went well with the look and the character. I know him in real life, and meet him often. I also worked with him in Gangs of Wasseypur (2012), so I have observed his work. He is multi-talented and inspires me as an actor. In fact, we would all copy him when we were studying at the National School of Drama,” he recalled.
